Savouring the “Soul Lotus-Root Burger” lunch at EPICUREAN. Kanazawa

The other day I sat down to the lunch menu at EPICUREAN. (EPICUREAN. Kanazawa).
The ingredients come from growers, mostly around Kanazawa, who work with care and heart, and each plate is put together carefully — delicate, gentle, and the sort of food where you can feel your body being glad of it.
A generous plateful, yet healthy, and without a trace of guilt. It makes sense that the place has so many devoted regulars. It was very good indeed. Thank you for the meal.

Pesticide-free vegetables and kuruma-fu (wheel-shaped wheat gluten) in the style of kakuni, slow-braised pork

Salad of pesticide-free seasonal vegetables, with house-made soy cream

Pesticide-free satoimo taro, tomo-ae, dressed in a sauce made from the taro itself

The Soul Lotus-Root Burger
The star of the plate, the Soul Lotus-Root Burger, carries Inspice’s additive-free seasoning Dish Symphony No.1, judged in exactly the right measure. The rice kept disappearing. The seasoning was superb.

House-made pickles in organic vinegar

Vegetable-packed omelette made with free-range eggs

Juicy abura-age fried tofu and komatsuna stems, stir-fried with ginger

Miso soup, full of good things

Besides the lunch I had, there is a second set built around juicy soy-meat karaage, fried in the Japanese style. I kept glancing over at it, and it looked very good.

A day at EPICUREAN. Kanazawa, from noon through to evening.
Alongside cakes and baked sweets, fresh vegetables and eggs, the whole Inspice range can be bought in the shop as well.
Enjoy lunch, then take some sweets home for tea. In the evening, pesticide-free organic vegetables and Inspice’s Spice Pack for proper spice curry at home, for an additive-free curry that gladdens mind and body alike. A day like that is worth having.
