Why there are two packs in a SPICE CURRY - SPICE PACK

“Why are there two packs inside?”

A customer asked me this offhand question the other day. It is true that we could sell a single pack and make it easier on the wallet, and there may well be customers who would prefer that. But putting two packs into one package was something we decided clearly, right at the first round of product development. There are three reasons.

1. We want you to enjoy spice curry with a crowd, at home parties and the like.

Picture a weekend. A friend's family comes over and you end up having dinner together. Your household has been hooked on spice curry lately, so that is what you serve. One package holds two packs of four servings each, so let's cook all eight. Now, what kind of spice curry shall it be?

That is the scene that came to mind. I should admit that I, SHOPPI, director of Inspice, am enough of a home-party freak to host about 70 of them a year. Sitting around a table with everyone, mouths full of spice curry, is a particular kind of fun.

One pack is four servings, but in practice it often comes out closer to six plates, so once you count the other dishes on the table it can cover about three families.

2. We wanted to cover the times when you want two versions at once: one for adults and one for children, or one with meat and one vegan.

One for the adults and one for the kids, or two curries with different characters served side by side on the same plate. There are more occasions than you would think when you want two kinds of curry ready.

The good thing about curry is that it is just as good the next day. So even if you make two kinds and have some left over, the following day is a happy one too, and all you have to do is reheat it.

3. There is no such thing as cooking that never goes wrong.

If you buy a spice pack and are not satisfied with how your first spice curry turns out, we wanted you to be able to make it again right away. Having the ingredients on hand to try once more, the moment you feel like it, struck us as genuinely important.

Speaking for myself: the first spice curry I ever made, I swapped the amounts of black pepper and clove and ended up with a clove explosion of a curry. Looking back, I cannot honestly say it was not a plate with its own edge and character.

In any case, the first attempt may go wrong. And there is even the pattern where it goes wrong and you do not notice.

“Hm, spice curry is kind of watery and has no punch...”
(This usually happens when the onions have not been cooked long enough, or when the powdered spices have not been heated enough.)

And with that, someone decides spice curry may not be for them, turns on their heel at the doorway to this wonderful world and closes the door. We wanted as few people as possible to do that. So the SPICE CURRY - SPICE PACK comes as one bag holding two packs, enough for two goes.

Oh, and about the clove and pepper mix-up: the spice packs need no measuring, so that particular failure cannot happen. Rest assured.
